Haptic is a London-based architectural studio with an international outlook, established in 2008 by Scott Grady, Timo Haedrich and Tomas Stokke. The practice has since been joined by Nikki Butenschøn, who heads up our new Oslo office.
Haptic’s approach is to develop a design that is highly contextual and that responds to the specific climatic and environmental conditions of the site. The resulting designs are striking, efficient and reflect the character of the space and the surrounding environment.
As a design based practice we believe that the shift away from the ‘optical’ to the ‘haptical’ is a move that benefits the users of the buildings we design. We are fascinated by spatial qualities such as volume and form but also light, materials, views and variety. We are concerned that we should have a light touch on the planet, by making buildings as sustainable and resource-light as possible.
